Communication Upgrade Requirements in High-Safety Environments

As a critical energy infrastructure, nuclear power plants have extremely high requirements for communication system safety, stability, and long-term operational reliability. In areas such as radiation-controlled zones, equipment rooms, and complex pipeline areas, communication devices are exposed to harsh conditions including high temperatures, high humidity, and corrosive environments. Traditional communication equipment may experience aging, failures, and unstable communication performance, making it difficult to meet the stringent operational requirements of the nuclear industry.
From 2023 to 2025, a nuclear power plant in Bulgaria carried out a communication system upgrade and introduced J&R industrial communication solutions to provide stable and reliable emergency communication support for key areas.

Communication Requirements in Complex Environments

The communication system required terminals with high protection levels, explosion-proof performance, and strong environmental adaptability. The solution also needed to integrate with the existing IP communication system to enable efficient communication between field areas and the control center.
Meanwhile, the equipment needed to support long-term stable operation, reduce maintenance frequency, and ensure reliable communication availability in critical situations.

J&R Explosion-Proof SIP Communication Solution

To meet the project requirements, J&R provided the JREX106-HB explosion-proof SIP telephone solution with a gooseneck microphone, with a total of 150 units deployed in relevant areas of the nuclear power plant.
   
The JREX106 series explosion-proof telephone features a glass fiber reinforced plastic enclosure with excellent impact resistance and corrosion resistance. With an IP66 protection rating and compliance with ATEX and IECEx explosion-proof standards, the device is designed to provide safe and reliable communication in harsh industrial environments.
The device supports SIP protocol compatibility with mainstream IP-PBX systems, as well as PoE power supply, remote configuration management, and automatic switching between primary and backup servers, improving communication system reliability and operational efficiency. The integrated gooseneck microphone further enhances on-site communication convenience and ensures clear voice communication in nuclear power applications.

Through the deployment of the J&R explosion-proof SIP communication system, the nuclear power plant significantly improved communication stability and emergency response capabilities in complex environments. With its high protection level, explosion-proof design, and environmental durability, the system reduces maintenance requirements, improves operational reliability, and provides stable communication support for safe operations, emergency dispatching, and daily maintenance.
