4G Emergency Communication Solution Ensures Safe Operation of Swiss Highways
Communication Challenges in Complex Environments
As smart transportation continues to develop, highways require emergency communication equipment with higher reliability, environmental adaptability, and efficient operation and maintenance capabilities. Some highway sections in Switzerland are exposed to harsh conditions such as low temperatures, freezing rain, high humidity, and corrosive environments, creating challenges for traditional communication equipment, including difficult maintenance and limited visibility into device status. From the end of 2024 to 2025, J&R provided a customized JR314-SC-4G emergency communication solution for a core highway project in Switzerland. A total of 410 units were deployed to provide reliable support for emergency communication and daily equipment management along the highway.
Customized Design Improves Maintenance Efficiency
To meet the maintenance requirements of highway environments, the JR314-SC-4G solution was specially optimized in both structure and functionality. The customized emergency call panel features an exclusive structural design that effectively solves the issue of replacing entire devices when faults occur.
Through a more flexible maintenance approach, related components can be serviced or replaced without replacing the complete unit, significantly reducing labor requirements and equipment replacement costs. This design better meets the needs of long-term highway operation and improves maintenance convenience.
In addition to structural optimization, the JR314-SC-4G solution supports self-diagnostic functionality, enabling real-time feedback of equipment inspection data to highway management departments. This allows operators to dynamically monitor equipment status and shift from passive maintenance to proactive management. With 4G wireless communication, the solution supports flexible deployment along highways and provides a more efficient approach for managing distributed communication equipment over long distances.
Reliable Performance for Extreme Conditions
Designed for Switzerland’s challenging climate conditions, the JR314-SC-4G customized solution features enhanced waterproof and corrosion-resistant capabilities, improving long-term operational reliability in environments affected by freezing rain, humidity, and other outdoor challenges. The built-in backup battery design effectively addresses limitations caused by insufficient solar power capacity and non-replaceable solar panels at the installation sites. Without increasing maintenance requirements, the solution ensures continuous operation and provides more than one week of extended standby time. Through this project, the JR314-SC-4G customized communication solution has delivered a stable and reliable emergency communication system for a core Swiss highway. With its flexible structural design, intelligent status monitoring, and strong environmental adaptability, the solution effectively supports safe and efficient highway operations in complex outdoor environments.
